ORGANIZATION: CASA of Los Angeles

Two Females

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer makes a difference for children in foster care--children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Unlike others in the system, the CASA volunteer works one-on-one to advocate for the child’s best interests in both the courtroom and the community. In collaboration with others in the child’s life, volunteers are instrumental in facilitating access to the material, educational, and physical and mental health services necessary for each child to flourish.

There are over 30,000 children and youth in LA County’s child welfare system and we receive referrals daily for children who need a CASA volunteer, so we are delighted to hear that you are interested in learning more! The first step toward becoming a CASA volunteer is joining us for an information session, where you will learn in more detail about the role of a CASA volunteer and the steps to become one. In addition to this in-person information session, we have an online version. To RSVP for this or another information session, please go to: www.casala.org/infosession/ or call 323-859-2888 x6303. More information is also available at www.casala.org.

Mission Statement

CASA of Los Angeles mobilizes community volunteers to advocate for children who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Description

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (or CASA) volunteer makes a difference for children in foster care. CASA volunteers are paired to work one-on-one with a child and ensure they have the services and support needed in the areas important to all children: stable placement, education, and healthcare. There are 30,000 kids in the child welfare system in LA and many need the support of a CASA volunteer. The first step toward becoming a CASA volunteer is attending an information session, where we describe the role and impact our volunteers have.
