We are looking for self-motivated and passionate individuals to join the California AmeriCorps Disaster Team, through the American Red Cross. Members will serve in a full-time capacity (approximately 40 hours per week) to meet the requirement of 1,700 service hours throughout the 10.5-month term. Responsibilities will include weekend and evening commitments, and all members will be expected to participate in off-hours assignments. In addition, members of the Disaster Team may be required to deploy for two-week periods to assist with disasters within the State of California.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing community members for disaster through presentations and trainings for children and adults
- Building the Red Cross’ capacity by recruiting and training new volunteers, and supervising volunteer teams
- Responding to local disaster calls

- Bi-weekly stipend of $652.17 (before taxes), health and dental coverage, and childcare assistance to those that qualify
- Upon successful completion of the program, members will receive an Education Award of $5,920 to use towards qualified student loans or future tuition

- Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Willing to drive frequently within Kern County
