Make an impact and mentor high school students as they launch their own businesses! As a volunteer with Junior Achievement of Southern California, you will go to your assigned high school for one hour each week and coach students through the creation, marketing, and production and sale of product or service. We provide the curriculum and you bring the real-world experience.

This 15 week commitment is perfect for a volunteer who understands the process of turning an idea into a business and is passionate about students achieving the same! At the end of the in-class coaching students will have the chance to compete in our annual Junior Achievement Student Competition where they will present their business pitch to professional judges and showcase their product or service.

We need volunteers for the following areas, Monday-Friday times vary:

  • Boyle Heights
  • Eagle Rock
  • El Sereno
  • Harbor City
  • North Hills (San Fernando Valley)
  • Oxnard

Mission Statement

To educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives.

Description

Junior Achievement of Southern California is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Our three pillars of success: entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness, are helping prepare young people for the real world by showing the economic relevance of staying in school, building self-confidence, and inspiring them to dream big for their futures.

At JA Finance Park, students are given a unique life profile after answering a series of future lifestyle questions. Their life profile includes an income, marital status, even kids! Using this new adult persona, students work to create a balanced monthly budget while making decision regarding housing, transportation, insurance, savings, entertainment expenses and much more.
