If you have a heart for people and would like to make a difference in your community, please consider becoming a patient volunteer for Grace Hospice. This is a flexible program, you can volunteer any times or days you prefer. We currently have a patient in Beaverdam that is looking for someone to sit with them.

Training is provided and you have the support of staff and medical professionals as well. This is a rewarding opportunity for you as well as the patient and family as you aid in life's final days. Volunteers share conversations, quiet times just "being there", aid in writing, music or pet therapy, however you feel can benefit your time together. You can even spend time giving the family a chance to leave the house to run an errand.

You will feel great knowing you participated in another person's comfort. Our volunteers often express how happy they feel in touching another person's life.

About Grace Hospice of Richmond

Mission Statement

For each employee to treat every patient as their own treasured loved one, providing care that affords a quality of life that outweighs quantity of day, and supports caregivers as their hearts find healing

Description

Hospice care is not just for the patient. It also provides emotional support for the entire family. Hospice is a philosophy of caring for patients whose medical conditions are not responding to treatment or for those patients who choose not to seek aggressive medical care at the end state of life. Our program is for patients who are considered terminal and are expected to live six months or less if the disease follows its natural course, although many patients outlive this time frame. Our philosophy focuses on comfort care not curative care. Our goal is for the patient to remain as comfortable and pain-free as possible in their own home or the home of a loved one through the end of life. We also serve patients who are living in long-term and assisted living facilities.
