Help survivors and their pets reach safety!

Every year Ahimsa House operates the largest concessions tent at the East Lake PGA TOUR Championship, and receives a portion of the proceeds. We need a lot of volunteers to help us pull this off, so please invite your family, friends, or other groups to help you help Ahimsa House AND enjoy a great day of golf!

When: This year's tournament runs from Wednesday, August 21st to Sunday, August 25th. We are only staffing the morning shifts again this year, which take place from 8 or 9 am to 2 or 2:30 pm, depending on the day. You will need to allow an extra 30 minutes to take the shuttle from the parking area and get checked in for your shift.

Who: We need anywhere from 15 to 25 volunteers for each shift, so we would greatly appreciate if you, your family, friends, colleagues, or groups of any sort would consider joining us. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer alone but high-school aged individuals may volunteer with a guardian present.

What: Volunteers will be helping with tasks such as working the register, preparing food, and running food/drinks. You are invited to stay and watch the tournament for free after your shift ends!

Why: Ahimsa House relies on this and other fundraisers to be able to help victims of domestic violence and their pets reach safety from domestic violence together. We offer our services, including 60 days of temporary care and housing for pets, free of charge to their owners while they escape to safety. Ahimsa House gets paid for each volunteer that completes a shift at our tent at PGA, which greatly helps fund the various services we are able to offer survivors and their pets!

**Please note: the tournament is now requiring all volunteers on our team to either wear an Ahimsa House shirt or the standard white collared shirt, as well as Khaki or black bottoms (pants, shorts, skorts, or capris) and closed toe shoes. Unfortunately we are no longer able to allow individual corporate volunteer groups to wear their company shirts. We sincerely apologize!! **

Please use the form linked above and below to sign up for a shift (or more if you'd like!). **If possible, please sign up by Friday, August 2nd, as the catering company requests a list of volunteers ahead of time to ensure that we'll be fully staffed. We don't want them to have to hire staff for our tent, because that means less money for us!**

We will be in touch closer to the Tournament with more details on parking and check-in. If you have any questions before then, would like to sign up a large group, or need to change your shift, please email Samantha Altfest at samantha@ahimsahouse.org.

About Ahimsa House, Inc.

Location:

PO Box 2173, Tucker, GA 30085, US

Mission Statement

Ahimsa House is dedicated to addressing the link between domestic violence and animal cruelty. We offer services and assistance to victims of domestic violence with pets in Georgia and work to raise awareness of this connection in communities throughout the state. To date (June 2023), Ahimsa House has provided over 170,000 nights of safe, confidential shelter for pets in need. With over 3,000 pets and around 1,900 pet owners assisted, Ahimsa House continues to grow in the number of families we've helped reach safety.

Description

Ahimsa (uh-him-sa) House is Georgia's first and only nonprofit organization that supports survivors of domestic violence with their pets as they seek safety. Since our inception in 2004, we have served more than 100 counties in Georgia and work in conjunction with domestic violence shelters statewide to handle the care and treatment of survivor's pets. Our services include up to sixty (60) days of temporary shelter for pets, routine or emergency veterinary care, pet transportation assistance, 24/7 crisis line support, assistance in obtaining pet friendly housing, and more! Once survivors are ready and able, they are reunited with their pet in confidentiality.

With less than only ten full time staff members, Ahimsa House depends heavily on the help of members in our communties to succeed in our mission. Volunteers are essential and work incredibly hard to assist survivors on the crisis line, transport pets between facilities, foster pets temporarily (with supplies and veterinary care provided by us!), and share our services to the public at community events. Additionally, we rely on the amazing partnerships we've made with animal hospitals, rescues, and boarding facilities throughout the state!

Ahimsa House relies heavily on individual donations, grants, and corporate sponsorships alongside receiving many in-kind donations of goods and services.
