Harbor House is a community development organizing working in the San Antonio district of Oakland. We partner with local families to provide radically affordable and free services, like an elementary after-school program, adult English literacy classes, produce-focused food distribution, and paid youth internships.
We are in need of a Garden Manager who would be able to plan and help maintain our garden and various garden boxes, with support from our staff. We hope that the produce from our garden can be used for health and sustainability education. In addition to managing the garden, we would love for the Garden Manager volunteer to also help to plan or lead workshops for our clients (children and adults) on healthy, culturally relevant recipes, urban gardening, and sustainability.
This is a new project, and we welcome knowledgeable community members who help shape and realize its vision.
Hours are flexible, but some availability during our programs (Tuesday/Thursday 10-12, and Monday-Thursday 2:45-5:45) would be helpful.

Mission Statement
Harbor House Ministries is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for people with limited resources to become self-sufficient through educational, spiritual, and economic programs so that, together, everyone becomes all that God intends us to be. We welcome everyone regardless of ethnicity or religion and we do not require a faith commitment in exchange for services.
Description
Harbor House was formed in 1972 and has a tremendous record of staff, volunteer, and donor involvement from diverse backgrounds. The educational, spiritual, economic development, and training departments work together to offer various programs including emergency food, ESL, a clothing store, quilting class, youth leadership development program, recreation, tutoring, mentoring, and a multi-cultural children's choir.
This area has a large immigrant population and 91% of the students attending the local elementary school receive free lunches. While Harbor House is a Christian organization, we provide programs to everyone irrespective of race, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender or handicap.
