Are you a retired teacher? A college student studying to become a teacher? Just love public speaking and hanging out with kids and animals? Perfect! The Michigan Humane Society offers Humane Education Programs for the community, with an emphasis on presenting youth-friendly programs. These programs teach metro Detroit area youth all about being an animal advocate and also teaches about safe animal handling skills. The presentations are then followed by a game or craft for the children (like making toys for our shelter dogs and cats!) and a meet & greet with a certified therapy dog.
We are looking for volunteers who love animals, would like to present these programs, are comfortable working with children and don't mind working with a little bit of technology (like a projector and PowerPoint slideshow). Please note: we do require background checks (at no cost to you) for humane education volunteers.
Let us know if this is the right opportunity for you!
