The Safe Haven Network provides dedicated housing options for domestic violence victims and their pets by placing the pets in shelters and foster homes while the victims stay in domestic violence shelters. By providing a dedicated service for domestic violence victims to escape abuse with their pets, The Safe Haven Network offers the safety options, support and the peace of mind that your pet is free from abuse as well.

The Safe Haven Network is an important local resource for information on the link between domestic violence and animal abuse. We are updating our training materials, and we need your help! We need 1-2 dedicated volunteers to research the latest laws, statistics, and resources related to domestic violence and animal abuse, and help us synthesize that information into an engaging training presentation. Great opportunity for students!

Mission Statement

The Safe Haven Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that facilitates temporary emergency boarding for the pets of domestic violence victims. We address the link between domestic violence and animal abuse through our referral program, as well as community education and outreach.

Description

The Safe Haven Network recognizes the incredible importance of a family’s connection with their pets, and our goal is to create a system by which families facing domestic violence can escape to safety with their pets. We are achieving this goal through a referral program that connects domestic violence advocates to temporary emergency boarding facilities for the pets. While the families stay in a domestic violence shelter, the pets stay in their own shelter, safe from harm while they await their reunion with their families. By providing this service, we encourage victims to leave their abusers with the confidence that their pets will be safe and that they are not giving their pets up, but will reunite as a family.
