Neighborhood Youth Association is a non-profit after school program for low income youth. When our students reach high school, they apply for the Youth Leadership Academy. As Youth Leaders, students mentor and tutor younger students, undergo intensive college prep, receive academic tutoring and participate in elective classes.

For the past two years, we have offered Documentary Filmmaking as an elective. Students learn how to interview, film and edit using Adobe Premiere. The class is once a week for the entire school year. At the end, students present their 2-10 minute films to their families and community at a culmination event.

Instructors must be skilled at editing with Adobe. The curriculum is flexible - it does not need to focus on documentaries, but any kind of filmmaking you are passionate about! Our program runs Monday-Thursday from 4-7, so any time frame within those hours will work. Classes are 5-12 students. We have a rough curriculum available for use, but instructors are able to bring their own or add to ours.

Students gain so much from this class! Please consider teaching these very deserving kids!
