Goal of the Job: To support the Data and Communications Manager and Fund Development Manager in strategy and tasks related to mission impact story development; social media content development, posting, and tracking; and writing for print/electronic publication.

Responsibilities:

  • With staff support, create and present immediate and long-term social media development plans, as appropriate, to achieve established communications goals related to literacy, advocacy, workforce development, health literacy, and fundraising.
  • Support general communications plans by conducting interviews with member agencies, literacy learners, partners, and stakeholders in order to develop written and visual stories that illustrate the impact of Wisconsin Literacy and Wisconsin Health Literacy’s work.
  • Track impact of social media presence in order to gauge the effectiveness of changes in messaging. Make recommendations based on findings.
  • Track WL and WHL program activities as well as general adult literacy, early childhood literacy, health literacy, and workforce development activity on social media; make recommendations for Wisconsin Literacy (WL) and Wisconsin Health Literacy (WHL) communications, including social media

o Under staff general guidance, implement social media recommendations on WL and WHL pages.

  • Write and edit articles for e-mail newsletters and printed materials such as newsletters and Annual Report, as requested, under the guidance of staff.
  • Collaborate with staff to strategize and implement social media plan for The Big Share, an online giving campaign to raise funds and awareness for Wisconsin Literacy through Community Shares of Wisconsin

Skills, Education and Experience

  • Desire to support the mission of Wisconsin Literacy and Wisconsin Health Literacy
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Education/Experience in Communications/Marketing with a focus on or strong interest in social media
  • Strong computer, internet research and typing skills
  • Excellent proofreading skills

Wisconsin Literacy was founded in 1985 as an all-volunteer coalition comprised of adult, family and workplace literacy providers with the mission of supporting each other through information sharing, referral, advocacy, resources, and training.

Description

Wisconsin Literacy, Inc., (WLI) serves Wisconsin’s communities by serving its member agencies. Through its four Regional Literacy Consultants (RLCs), member agencies receive services that support their individual and varied needs. This support includes onsite visits that provide help with professional development, board development, tutor training, accountability, grant writing and any other area that an agency may identify. In addition, WLI offers services to help new and emerging literacy agencies become established, as well as expertise in the areas of health literacy, workforce literacy and computer literacy.
