La Casita Center is a grassroots nonprofit in Louisville that serves the Latin@ community. Our mission is to empower these families, providing a foundation for systemic change with long-term effects. We are passionate about social justice, solidarity and accompaniment of the most vulnerable, and promotion of health and healing among our newest immigrant Latin@ families. We do this through direct service (meeting basic needs) as well as through education, advocacy, and the creation of networks of support. The La Casita Center VISTA will strengthen the capacity of LaCasita Center by creating a comprehensive fundraising process that efficiently utilizes grants and volunteers for organizational sustainability. This includes researching and preparing grants, developing a funding timeline, and working with the center's volunteer base.

Member Duties : The VISTA will assess the current and historical use of grants at LaCasita Center, research new grant opportunities, and create or revise policies and procedures to streamline the organization’s ability to respond to grants in a timely manner. Additionally, the VISTA will recruit, train, and develop policies and procedures to enhance the organization’s existing volunteer program.

Mission Statement

La Casita Center enhances the well-being of Louisville's Latino community through education, empowerment, advocacy, and wellness. La Casita Center works intentionally to build a thriving community based on mutual support and respect.

Description

Our Vision
Connecting people through solidarity to be one community.

Our Philosophy
La Casita centers its work on creating strong, self-sustaining communities of women and men whose members grow through mutual support. Women and men who participate in our programs unite through the Acuerdos, a set of agreements or "points of unity" which guide participants’ interactions with themselves, one another, and the community at large.

Our History
Recognizing the growing, social, educational, and health needs of Latina immigrant women and their families in Louisville, a small group of concerned women - social workers, teachers, mothers and members of religious communities - sought input from and listened to the concerns of Latina women in order to find ways to address their needs. La Casita was founded in 2005 and officially incorporated in 2006, beginning a new chapter in a rich history of building a movement of Latina women in Louisville, Kentucky. Since its inception, La Casita Center has implemented grassroots strategies to help women access services and overcome barriers to obtaining needed resources. La Casita Center creates community spaces for support, education, advocacy and empowerment and provides programming at times and places most accessible to families in various locations throughout the Louisville Metro Area.
