Each year, Literacy Volunteers of Central CT provides small group and one-on-one literacy tutoring to over 350 low literate adults, using student centered instruction and mentoring from volunteer tutors who receive high quality training and ongoing support.

Volunteers helping people improve their lives through English literacy.

Position Statement

Literacy Volunteers of Central CT provides instruction, assistance and encouragement to those adult members of our community who want to improve their skills in reading, writing, or speaking English so that they can achieve their work, family, and community goals.

We recruit and train volunteers who tutor and also act as mentors for students that may need help with cultural or societal issues as well as language difficulties.

Description

Volunteers are trained to help adults reach their community, work, family, and education goals through English literacy. We serve over 360 students per year from New Britain/Middletown and surrounding towns.
