Are you looking for a unique volunteer opportunity? The YMCA's Newcomer Academy Program is an after school academic and sports program for middle and high school students attending the ESL Newcomer Academy. A program of the Downtown Family YMCA, our primary focus is to create a welcoming, educational environment for immigrant and refugee children new to the United States. The after school program is five days a week, starting at 2:30 PM and ending at 5:00 PM. The program will start in September.
Volunteer tutors are needed primarily in the areas of math, reading and English. No teaching experience is required, just a passion for education and interest in working with people from different cultures. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to help with activities, including art, science activities, and sports.
To find out more about these exciting volunteer opportunities and more, contact Lee Johnson at ljohnson2@ymcalouisville.org.
