ORGANIZATION: Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay, Inc.

Driver - requires about 2 hours of training and a mentoring run with either a Captain or an experienced driver - works as little as three hours monthly on the same day each month if on one of the daily teams. The 31 daily teams cover 5 shifts each day, including 9am-noon, noon-3pm, 3pm-6pm, 6pm-9pm, and 9pm-11pm. If on the fill-in team, can sign up in Security Patrol office to work whenever available. The fill-in team only works the first 3 shifts each day, but team drivers can be on a call list for the 6pm-9pm and the 9pm-11pm shifts if those are their preferred shifts. Drivers on both the daily and the fill-in teams may be invited to work additional shifts if the need arises, but, as with all of the shifts, this is completely voluntary. The drivers patrol the entire Sun City Center Area.

Programs Offered Through Seniors in Service:


Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)

  • The Foster Grandparent Program recruits senior volunteers (55+) to go into schools and after-school programs to mentor at-risk and special needs children and provide them with one-on-one, individualized attention


Senior Companion Program (SCP)

  • The Senior Companion Program recruits senior volunteers (55+) to go into the homes of homebound, elderly clients and provide them with companionship and assistance.


Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

  • The RSVP Program recruits senior volunteers(55+) to participate more fully in the life of the community through volunteer service. The program matches the considerable wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience of this vital and rapidly growing age group with the addressing of critical needs and unresolved issues in our community.


Operation Veteran Connect

  • Provides companionship to veterans, enabling them to live independently. Supports the VA in supporting providing Whole Health support to veterans.
