About Health Action League

Health Action League is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing the health and wellness of underserved NYC youth. Health Action League implements comprehensive and impactful health and wellness programs at schools and youth organizations to further advance the well-being and academic performance of our students.

Youth in low-income New York City neighborhoods have limited access to organized sports, gyms, healthy food options, and other resources that promote health and wellness. As a result, young people in these neighborhoods have poorer health compared to their high-income peers. This is unfair and avoidable; a child’s health should not be determined by their zip code.

Health Action League is determined to provide fun opportunities for underserved NYC youth to be physically active and eat healthy. Our ultimate goal is to improve the physical and mental health of our students and better prepare them to continue a healthy lifestyle outside of the classroom.

About Our Board

Health Action League’s Board of Directors comprises leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Our board members champion the health of youth and believe that each and every child deserves an opportunity to be healthy and happy.

In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for Health Action League and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Health Action League to advance our mission.

Responsibilities of Board Member

Health Action League’s Board of Directors comprises leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Serving on Health Action League’s Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about advancing the health and wellness of youth in need.

Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the development committee and staff identify and solicit potential funders and sponsors, as well as directly invest in Health Action League’s work by making a personal contribution each year.
  • Board members are expected to responsibly represent Health Action League to their respective communities and to advocate for Health Action League’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate.
