Jumpstart Foster Grandparent Program is now seeking adults 55+ to help children succeed! Jumpstart is a national early education organization working towards a day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. We are currently recruiting caring older adults to work with preschool-age children (ages 3-5) on reading, writing, and social skills for the 2018-2019 school year.

Jumpstart Grandparents serve 15+ hours a week in local early childhood centers, partnered with a small group of children. Some of the primary service activities would include working on a team of 4-6 adults 55+, reading to children in small groups and leading fun activities that build literacy and social emotional skills as well as many opportunities for professional and personal development. Our preschool partners are located in Central LA (i.e. Pico Union, Echo Park) South LA (i.e. Historic South Central, Exposition Park, etc.), East LA (Boyle Heights), and the City of Compton. This is a volunteer position that provides a modest hourly stipend ($2.65/hr), reimbursement for travel, and extensive training.

We currently are accepting 20 individuals for immediate placement in our program. The school year is fast approaching and volunteers will be accepted on a first come basis. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or interest!

If this program seems like a positive addition to your lifestyle, please call Senior Site Manager, Kayla Weems, 213.387.5505 or email at kayla.weems@jstart.org.

Mission Statement

We’re mobilizing people over 50 to help young people who need champions.

Description

Generation to Generation (Gen2Gen) is a diverse, action-oriented community of people who believe that experience matters, and that the goal of later life isn’t trying to remain young: it’s to be there for those who actually are. Because every child deserves a web of support, and every older adult has something to give.

The campaign shines a light on the mutual benefits of intergenerational relationships already happening, and features countless opportunities for people to get involved.
