LifeWorks is a nonprofit organization dedicated to being fearless advocates for youth and families seeking their path to self-sufficiency. We are committed to innovative problem solving, shared accountability, and a relentless focus on achieving real, sustainable, and measurable results for the clients we serve. Every member of our staff serves a meaningful purpose linked to our client's experience. Volunteering at LifeWorks offers opportunities for personal and professional growth and development while making an immediate difference in the lives of youth and families in our community.

LifeWorks is looking for Volunteer Tutors for our Education Program. The program serves youth between the ages of 16 and 26 who have dropped out of school or who are parenting. These youth face circumstances that hinder their success in school, such as homelessness, parenthood, or involvement in the juvenile justice system.

What you’ll do as a Volunteer Tutor:

  • Support students’ individual goals to increase their academic levels by providing additional assistance in subject areas including Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts.
  • Improve students’ comfort, self-confidence, and competence in the four subject areas of the GED exam or other High School Equivalency exam.
  • Help students prepare for the GED or other High School Equivalency exam.

Requirements:

  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be a college graduate, college senior, or college junior
  • Be passionate about making a difference in their community by developing youth and young adults to their fullest potential

We need people who are dedicated to meeting clients where they are academically and in life and helping them get to where they want to be. We ask that tutors commit to volunteering at least twice a week and two hours each day for at least six months or longer.

Tutors proficient in Math, Science, Social Studies, and/or Language Arts needed on a weekly basis at two different locations (hours below).
