Help make the Summer Reading Program Awards Night Ceremony a memorable experience for everyone! We're looking for volunteers to perform crowd control and help children line up to meet the Mayor and Council Members during the Livermore Public Library’s Summer Reading Program Awards Night ceremony on Monday, September 9, 2019. Children who read for 28.5 hours during the Library’s Summer Reading Program receive a medal and an invitation to the City Council Awards Night ceremony. Hundreds of children and their parents and guardians attend the annual City Council Awards Night ceremony, and the event is covered by local media. The ceremony recognizes the achievement of young readers and promotes the Summer Reading Program in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute name tags to children as they arrive.
  • Help children line up alphabetically by last name.
  • Perform crowd control to ensure participants proceed to City Council Chambers in an orderly and timely fashion.

Commitment

  • Volunteers are needed to work 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019
  • Volunteers will meet at 5:00 pm in the Storytime Room for orientation. Volunteers and library staff will take their places at 6:00 pm. The goal is to have the event begin and for everyone to start walking through the City Council Chambers at 6:30 pm.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Comfortable working with children and crowds
  • Ability to stand and/or walk during the entire shift
  • Ability to be outdoors during potentially hot weather
  • Patience and flexibility
