Emergency Department - Patient Ambassador Duties: Do you thrive in an environment where there is constant change. Do you like knowing that you are directly impacting a patient's and their loved one's experience in the hospital. ED Pt. Ambassadors accomplish both of these while being exposed to the inner workings of a healthcare facility. In this assignment you will round on patients waiting for services in the second busiest ED in the state of Iowa. Your assignment should you choose to accept it: Meet every non-healthcare need possible that our patients and guests have. Bring a warm blanket to someone who's cold, a welcoming toy to a scared child, a listening ear to a person anxiously waiting for results. You are the nurse's eyes and ears between the healthcare being delivered to them. In addition there are stocking and cleaning responsibilities to free up the healthcare staff to deliver exceptional care. Qualifications: To excel in this position you must:
1) Be exceptionally poised and mature
2) Be able to push wheelchairs and walk long distances.
3) Be able to deal with stressful and high anxiety situations
4) Have impeccable listening and empathy skills
5) Have a high level of initiative and independence
6) Be comfortable with seeing the less pleasant side of life
7) Adults and college students interested in a healthcare career, especially MD, DO, PA, are preferred
8) Be able to commit to a designated four hour shift weekly with rare exceptions Directions: Disclaimer: Our volunteer assignments are on-going, we ask that our volunteers commit to volunteering once a week (2-4 hours) for at least 6 months to ensure a positive impact to our hospital.
