Our mission is to defend and promote civil rights, facilitate access to health care and education for low-income Latin American immigrants, and promote cross-cultural understanding throughout Mercer County.
LALDEF acts as a resource hub for the local immigrant community, helping dismantle the barriers that stand in the way to a more fair and just society, and supporting the incorporation of these immigrants to the social fabric. Our purpose is to support immigrants maintain their livelihoods, freedom and self sufficiency, facilitate their integration into their local communities, Consistent with our nation’s values and respect for human rights, we believe that helping immigrants obtain jobs, homes, and access to health care and education, and thus build better futures for themselves and their children, while continuing to strive, assimilate and be accepted into American society, will strengthen our nation. Ultimately, we serve the community at large by creating cross-cultural understanding between native and foreign-born, accepting and appreciating our differences, while recognizing our common humanity and mutual interest in contributing to a thriving, fair, diverse community.
