ENERGETIC ENTREPRENEURIAL BOARD MEMBERS SOUGHT

ICS a non-profit dedicated to the promotion of the Caribbean Community agenda, is seeking members to join our board ASAP to help us serve with an informed and INTERSECTIONAL approach. The following BOARD POSITIONS are VACANT:

1) DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
2) FINANCE DIRECTOR
3) SECRETARY
4) ADVISORY COUNCIL DIRECTOR
5) COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING DIRECTOR
6) RESEARCH COUNCIL DIRECTOR
7) VICE PRESIDENT (best suited for self-employed or retired person who is available to represent the organization at high level events with Federal government agencies during regular work hours)
8) PROGRAMS DIRECTOR

The all volunteer Board will support the on-going work of ICS as well as provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance for the execution of ICS operations. The appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

LEADERSHIP, GOVERNANCE, AND OVERSIGHT

  • Attend all board meetings
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to the President and CEO as s/he leads the implementation of the strategic plan
  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by ICS for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
  • Organizing, coordinating and managing the recruitment of volunteers for the project, programs, and endeavors
  • Working with international, national and local organizations and institutions as appropriate to develop partnerships
  • Developing and implementing training programs for all volunteers
  • Maintaining updated records on all volunteers
  • Setting up and attending volunteer meetings
  • Reporting to staff in volunteer activities as needed
  • Recommending and developing ongoing volunteer utilization
  • Developing and implementing a volunteer recognition program
  • Assisting the President/CEO and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
  • Partnering with the other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
  • Representing ICS to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
  • Ensuring ICS’s commitment to a diverse board that reflects the communities ICS serves


FUNDRAISING

ICS Board Members will consider ICS a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. ICS will then be able to credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, ICS expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

BOARD TERMS/PARTICIPATION

ICS’s Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for additional terms. Board meetings will be held quarterly and committee meetings as needed for execution of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about ICS’s mission and who has a track record of community service. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in other business, government, philanthropy, academic, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.


Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, academic, or the nonprofit sector
  • A commitment to and understanding of ICS goals and objectives, preferably based on experience
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for the Caribbean peoples
  • Service on ICS’ Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties, where possible.

This is a NON-PAYING opportunity so we hope to add like-minded individuals to the team who want to make a difference. For some of the positions, you do not have to LIVE in the DC METRO AREA to be eligible. You must be willing and able to participate in video conferences as needed. These positions must be filled ASAP.
