Thanks to a Neighborhood Matching Grant from the City of Eugene, Nearby Nature is creating a stencil mural on the Frohnmayer Footbridge as a way to deter graffiti and beautify this entry into Alton Baker Park. We have used this method to success on a smaller scale and now we're excited to scale it up. Here is a little more on the project: http://www.nearbynature.org/news/bridge-mural

During the week of August 13, Nearby Nature staff and community volunteers will paint the parapets of the bridge a solid grey and then spray paint a variety of plant and animal stencils in various layouts across the length of the bridge's inner walls. We are looking for volunteers to sign up for the following times:

  • Monday, August 13 - 9 am to Noon OR 1 pm to 4 pm
  • Tuesday, August 14 - 9 am to Noon OR 1 pm to 4 pm
  • Wednesday, August 15 - 9 am to Noon
Nearby Nature will provide snacks, access to water and bathrooms, and all necessary tools and supplies. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle, dress for the weather, and be prepared for the possibility of paint stains. If the weather is particularly hot, we may cut a time short to keep people safe and healthy. Likewise, if people can only participate for part of a shift, that's okay too; just let us know. If stenciling takes longer than expected, we may have additional opportunities for involvement beyond these dates.

Interested volunteers must RSVP and direct any questions to Alton Baker Park Host Shaun Daniel at parkhost@nearbynature.org or call the Nearby Nature office at 541-687-9699.
