Patient Support Volunteers are vital partners with the rest of the Interdisciplinary team to surround the patient and family with the care & support they need.

Companion Visits are the most common visits with volunteers providing conversation with patients living alone or in a facility or if the caregiver is still present.

Respite Volunteers can sit with a hospice patient while the caregiver goes to a Dr. appointment, runs errands or takes a break. Volunteers do not do hands on care: toileting, transferring, feeding, giving medications, or personal care.

"Stat" requests are for a one time need and are only accepted for Doctor’s appointments or other urgent situations.

Transitions, a pre-Hospice Program, also needs volunteers to assist clients with respite,

Errands or transport volunteers may assist to pick up groceries or other supplies, or take the patient to an appointment. Volunteers usually do not provide transport for family members to visit patients in facilities.

Lifestory volunteers provide a listening ear and help patients record life experiences and create a memory booklet.

Pet Peace of Mind Volunteers assist with the care of the patient’s pet(s). Limited to two per patient, dogs and cats only. This program is supported by donations. Volunteers assist with neutering, vet visits, grooming, pet food, or pet supplies. Handouts can be provided on adoption resources.

Pet Visitors bring their pet to visit patients to provide companionship and special attention.

Spiritual Care volunteers are assigned by chaplains to provide extra support for the spiritual needs of patients & families.

Vet-Vet assignments link veterans with volunteers who can share their military perspective.

Veterans Recognition Ceremonies recognize US honorable military service.
