Wanted to be part of a 5K without all the pesky running? The Kennesaw Museum Foundation is holding the 10th annual Great Locomotive Chase 5K on Saturday, September 29th. The race is held each year to help support the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History and is part of the Kennesaw Grand Prix Race Series. Help for the event is needed, and we are looking for volunteers for this fun event.
Volunteers positions available:
- Distribute bibs for pre-registered runners
- Sign up same day registration runners
- Pass out water along the course and at the end of the race
- Keep a stop watch (provided) and let runners know of their time along the course
- Course Marshal (watch for runner safety or emergencies)
- Set up and break down
- Timers
- VIP area set up and manage
- Race t-shirt set up and hand out
- Clean up
*note some volunteers may be asked to help with multiple assignments
The race will be held Saturday, September 29th, 2018. We hope to see you bright and early!

Mission Statement
The mission of The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is to collect, preserve, and interpret artifacts relating to the role of locomotives in the history of the South. Civil War railroad history, featuring the Great Locomotive Chase and the Civil War locomotive the General, and the manufacture and operation of locomotives during the post Civil War industrialization of the South, will be highlighted through the presentation of exhibits, educational programs relating to the Civil War, the Glover Steam Locomotive Collection, modern railroads, and railroading in the South.
Description
The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is located in Kennesaw, Georgia, 22 miles north of downtown Atlanta. The Southern Museum is part of the Smithsonian Affiliations Program and includes Civil War and railroad exhibitions, an early 20th century locomotive factory, a library/archive, and the Jolley Education Center.
