Rochester Contemporary Art Center is seeking professional and reliable volunteers. Applicants should be extremely detail oriented, friendly, sociable and interested in art. He/she should also have excellent organizational skills, and be able to multitask. Applicants should maintain a clean and professional appearance and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Interest in public relations and marketing as well as learning about all aspects of a non-profit art center are a plus for this position.

Duties include, but are not limited to: Greeting visitors, gallery admissions, updating databases and websites, artist and project research.

Requirements: Ability to perform administrative functions with accuracy and efficiency, answer phones, and provide customer service to gallery visitors. General computer skills and familiarity with Macs are a plus.

Volunteer shifts are generally Wed - Sun 12-5pm, Fri 5-10pm and occasional additional evening hours during special events. Different schedules can be accommodated. Volunteers committing to at least one 5 hour shift per week are preferred. Volunteers are a critical part of Rochester Contemporary Art Center's success and growth and we appreciate each and every one of you!

To support this mission, Rochester Contemporary Art Center:

  • Offers thoughtful contemporary art programming of all disciplines.
  • Presents the work of both renowned and emerging artists from around the world.
  • Provides exhibition, educational and networking opportunities for local artists.
  • Initiated and administers First Friday Citywide Gallery Night for the City of Rochester.
  • Fosters collaborative partnerships with other arts organizations and artists.
  • Builds community by bringing artists, patrons, students, teachers and enthusiasts together.
  • Is a social gathering place for artists, audiences, and the local community.
  • Is a neighborhood anchor for artistic activity and unique encounters in downtown Rochester.
