Join the AsylumConnect Board of Directors to play a pivotal role in helping LGBTQ asylum seekers find safe, high-quality resources during the U.S. asylum process
About AsylumConnect : Co-founded by a gay asylum seeker and lesbian in 2014 at the University of Pennsylvania, AsylumConnect is a tech nonprofit providing the first ever online resource catalog for LGBTQ asylum seekers. The AsylumConnect catalog currently helps LGBTQ asylum seekers find safe, high-quality resources during the U.S. asylum process. Nonprofits and immigration attorneys also use the catalog for client referrals. So far, the catalog has helped over 6,000 find safe resources. Supported by the UN, Clinton Foundation, One Degree, HRC, U.S. Committee for Refugees & Immigrants, and others.
Desired Skills & Experiences :
- Willing and able to leverage own networks to advance the mission of AsylumConnect
- Has access to foundations, corporate sponsors and high-networth individuals
- Willing and able to make a significant financial contribution to AsylumConnect - through personal contributions, peer-to-peer fundraising or a combination
- Passion for LGBTQ rights
- Familiarity (or willingness to learn in-depth) about immigration / asylum issues in the U.S.
Board Member Commitment :
- Make an annual financial gift at a level that is reflective of their circumstances and commitments
- Work with the Board Chair to implement an annual Fundraising Plan by developing a personal fundraising plan for the year to engage their networks in financially supporting AsylumConnect
- Serve a minimum 3 year tenure on the board
- Help to recruit additional board members
- Attend 1-hour quarterly board meetings (conducted remotely)
Save the Date: Tentative Fiscal Year 4 Board Meeting Schedule (Sept. 1, 2018 - Aug. 31, 2019) :
- The board will meet in the evenings on a quarterly basis. Anticipated FY 4 meeting schedule:
- Wednesday, September 12th, 2018 at 8:30PM EST
- Wednesday, December 12th, 2018 at 8:30PM EST
- Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 at 8:30PM EST
- Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 at 8:30PM EST
- The board will also call additional meetings throughout the year on an as needed basis

InReach is a trans-led tech nonprofit increasing resource access for the diverse LGBTQ+ community. Our vision is for every LGBTQ+ person to have on-demand access to the safe, affirming resources they need to thrive.
The free InReach App is the world’s first tech platform matching LGBTQ+ people facing persecution or discrimination with safe, verified resources. InReach is available on web (desktop and mobile), and native iOS and Android. InReach’s open-source technology instantly matches trans and queer people in need with safe, independently verified housing, medical and mental health care, immigration and other legal help, meal assistance, education and employment, translation, community and spiritual support, and more critical services. App features include: documentation search filters, translation, saving and sharing resources, leaving public ratings/reviews, the ability to suggest new resources, and service provider features. InReach serves as a comprehensive digital one-stop-shop for the intersectional LGBTQ+ community: InReach lists verified services for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, refugees and other immigrants, LGBTQ+ BIPOC communities, trans and gender non-conforming folks, LGBTQ+ youth and caregivers, and more LGBTQ+ communities. The InReach App is free for everyone, including lawyers, case managers, social workers, and other providers searching for affirming resource referrals for LGBTQ+ clients.
