ORGANIZATION: Girl Scouts Heart of Central California

Each year, thousands of girls in our region participate in non-traditional Girl Scout programs that provide opportunities for empowerment, enrichment and mentorship. We host Girl Scout troops at local migrant camps to bring Girl Scouts to girls who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to access all the fun and benefits Girl Scouts provides. These Migrant Centers are full of hope and promise and we are the bridge to their fulfillment.

Girl Scouts makes participation in these programs easy, affordable, and fun for girls and their families. Volunteers help bring these programs to life by serving as a consistent, supportive adult troop leader. We are looking for volunteers who can lead Girl Scout troops in migrant camps in San Joaquin County for the remainder of the 2018 year.

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about activities and encourage their involvement
  • Connect with Girl Scouts staff members sharing troop activities and troop status
  • Ensure that girls are involved in all phases of decision making and program planning.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children in grades K-12
  • Able to communicate and build trust with parents
  • Punctual, dependable, enthusiastic, flexible and positive attitude
  • Can lift a minimum of 5 pounds
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish-speaking)

  • Must be bilingual and fluent in reading and writing Spanish

  • Become a member of Girl Scouts of the USA (financial aid is available as needed)
  • Submit to and pass a criminal background check
  • Complete required Girl Scout troop leader trainings in person and online
  • Monthly commitment: 2-3 hours once per week

Benefits of volunteering in this role:

  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to girls in underserved communities
  • Gain experience delivering program curriculum to girls in grades K-12
  • Mentor girls to make a positive difference in the world
  • Make a difference in the life of a girl and creating lasting memories

Mission Statement

Building girls of courage, confidence, and character that make the world a better place.

Description

Girl Scouts is the world’s most successful organization dedicated to creating girl leaders, with 3.2 million active members and more than 59 million alumnae. Since its founding in 1912, women have explored new fields of knowledge, learned valuable skills and developed strong core values through Girl Scouting. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

At Girl Scouts, girls are going to have tons of fun, make new friends and go on fantastic new adventures. They’re also going to get the chance to do big things. Our program centers on something called the Girl Scout Leadership Experience-a collection of activities and experiences girls have as they earn badges, sell cookies, go on exciting trips, explore the outdoors, do Take Action projects that make a difference and more. The result? A lifetime of leadership!
