ORGANIZATION: Family Help Center

  • 5 people are interested

Many residents in our community can't quite make ends meet in today's tough economy. As a result, they visit our food pantry to supplement their family's food supply. Our food pantry is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM - 1 PM, and we are looking for a volunteer for Tuesdays during these hours. The volunteer will be in charge of assembling the food bags and carrying them for clients if needed.

Please note that this is a physical job that involves both lifting and standing.

Volunteers will work with people from all walks of life and will be trained. Please help us make a difference for hungry people in our community!

About Family Help Center

Location:

60 DINGENS ST, BUFFALO, NY 14206, US

Mission Statement

The mission of the Family Help Center is to provide free support to families and safety to children when parenting gets tough, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Description

For over 40 years, the Family Help Center has provided services to families with children of all ages - the support they can't always get from families, neighbors, or even parents. Agency services include: 24-hour Parent Help Line and in-home crisis intervention, phone follow-up services, parent instructional groups with companion child care groups, child enrichment programs, intensive home based preventive services, mandated preventive services, child care and emergency respite care, advocacy and linkage, and community education. No fees are charged for these services. The Agency also has a full service day care center, the Family Help Center Daycare Center, licensed for 124 children.

Through our services, we work to stop the intergenerational cycle of violence, as statistics show that approximately 95% of parents who abuse/neglect their children were maltreated as children. As a nonprofit agency, we are dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect in all its forms - physical, emotional, and sexual. We offer immediate assistance - with no application procedures, no eligibility requirements, and no waiting period. Perceived by families as being safe and non-threatening, the Agency is highly effective in engaging families resistant to traditional services.
