Overview

The Champion Program at Cradles to Crayons is a way for adults to give back and volunteer their time on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. We need people to check off care packages in our computer system to alert social workers that the care packages they have ordered are ready to be picked up and distributed out to the kids they serve living in low income and homeless situations. These care packages are filled with essential items like clothing, footwear, books, school supplies, etc. Checking off orders is an easy three step process using Salesforce CRM. Anyone with very basic computer skills can do this. During our busiest time of the year we will receive around 1,400 orders a week that need to be processed.

Commitment

Excellent candidates can commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift (2.5 hours each) for ideally 6 months. We are especially interested in volunteers that can come in one of the following shifts.

-Tuesday (9:45-12:15) or (1:15-3:45)
-Wednesday (1:15-3:45 pm)
-Thursdays (9:45-12:15) or (1:15-3:45 pm)
-Fridays (9:45-12:15) or (1:15-3:45 pm)
-Saturdays (9:45-12:15) or (1:15-3:45 pm)

-Tuesday evenings (3:15-5:45 pm) or (6:15-8:45 pm) *Occurs twice a month in the Fall-Spring
-Sundays (9:45-12:15) or (1:15-3:45pm)
*Occurs once a month

If this sounds like something you want to be a part of the next step is to schedule a time with me to come in to start your first shift. If you can help out weekly or bi-weekly on one of the shifts above that would be ideal. You can start as soon as you would like. Please let me know if you have any question or need more information.

Thank you,
Chris

About Cradles to Crayons

Location:

281 Newtonville Ave, Newton, MA 02460, US

Mission Statement

Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons is an innovative nonprofit organization that provides children living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. Cradles to Crayons also sets a foundation for lasting change by providing meaningful, tangible volunteer opportunities to thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations each year.

Description

By partnering with schools, corporations and community groups for donations, and with social-service organizations serving homeless and low-income families, we connect communities that have surplus resources--new or used items in good condition--with communities that desperately need access to those resources. We currently serve over 100,000 children per year out of our Boston location.

One of the unique components of the Cradles to Crayons operating model is the opportunity for volunteers to engage their own communities in our mission through our Community Champion Program. This program egages adults in leadership roles as a means of increasing Cradles to Crayons' capacity to engage with volunteers and community members, develop meaningful relationships, and ultimately serve more children. Champions may fulfill their role in a variety of ways- from hosting a large scale donation drive, to serving as an ambassador or maintaining one of our donation bins. Through these meaningful, hands on volunteer opportunities, we aspire to set a foundation for lasting change.
