The mission of Friends of the Family is to foster strong families, resilient and joyful children, and vibrant communities by providing respectful, responsive family support programs in the greater Los Angeles area.
Program Description: Provide support, coaching, and advocacy to families who are reunifying with their children and visiting with them on a weekly basis. Help the family to visit in a home-like atmosphere rather than in a sterile office space. Use your creativity to provide activities that engage the parents and children in natural interaction. Visits take place at Family Visitation Centers located in North Hills, Tarzana, Santa Clarita, and San Fernando.
Responsibilities: As a volunteer coach, you will support, "cheerlead" and provide overall assistance to the parents to ensure that the visit goes smoothly, providing re-direction and advice when needed.
Requirements: Volunteers must be over 21 years old and must complete a 24-hour training and certification provided at no cost to the volunteer. Training will be provided by Friends of the Family and includes all materials and ongoing supervision and support.
Time Commitment: Two hours per week for 6-12 months.
