Pine Bend Bluffs Natural Area brush haul + celebration

ORGANIZATION: Friends of the Mississippi River

Join Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR), Flint Hills Resources and Great River Greening as we return to the Flint Hills property within the Pine Bend Bluffs Natural Area along the Mississippi River -— one of the largest and most diverse native ecosystems left in the metro area! The site is only accessible to the public for special occasions like this annual restoration and celebration event. Join us for a chance to see it for yourself on Saturday, October 27, 9 a.m.-noon.

Working with FMR and Great River Greening ecologists and staff, volunteers will help protect these native plant communities by removing invasive species, primarily— helping to stack pre-cut buckthorn brush, —and assisting with other restoration tasks as needed. Everyone will be encouraged to work at their own comfort level and no previous experience is necessary. All tools and supplies will be provided, —including coffee, morning snacks and a hot lunch to conclude the event!—

As always, all are welcome. However, due to the nature of the work on this site volunteers must be 15 years of age or older. Upon registration we will also need the name, address and phone number for each person in your party.

Mission Statement

Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.

Description

Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.

We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.

Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
