MARINES - You have served before, we need you now as a volunteer!
ORGANIZATION: Volunteer Action for Aging
Please visit the new page to apply.
A gentleman who lives in Downtown Long Beach has requested to meet a FELLOW MARINE. He has been waiting for over 6 months. Please consider this great opportunity. The task is simple - offer 1 hour a week of your time. The reward is great.
If you are or have been a Marine, we know you are up to this service. You are tough enough and caring enough to help out a man who would benefit from your company. He is not interested in combat discussions, just someone who has had the same connection with the Marines.
Our agency, Volunteer Action for Aging, supports a Friendly Visitor Program for seniors who are isolated and have requested the company and conversation from a Volunteer Friendly Visitor. This gentleman has made a specific request to have a Marine - active duty, veteran or retired, to visit him once a week for an hour. He has an interest in history, reading, the Far East and of course the Marine Corps.
This person has some health problems that limit his ability to move around in his home and outside. His family does not live in the Southern California area. He is often without any conversation and would enjoy a Friendly Visitor who has common interests. He is educated and very conversational.
There is no personal or home care involved and no driving or doing errands for this person.
If you are interested in completing an application for this volunteer opportunity, please access our website scan.samaritan.com Click on the Friendly Visitor LA County tab for information and an application. If you have questions about this opportunity, please email Teri at THershberg@scanhealthplan.com or call 562-637-7175.
