The St. Paul Public Housing Agency (PHA) is seeking volunteers to host Open Lab at the McDonough Homes Computer Lab located in the Community Center at 1544 Timberlake in St. Paul.

Open Lab is flexible, can take place anytime during the day, except for weekends, when the Lab is closed. Mt. Airy is culturally rich and diverse in age groups.

While some families do have a computer in their home, many do not. All families are low-income and may not have the resources to purchase a computer and access the Internet. The Computer Lab offers both Internet access and software programs for youth to complete homework assignments; job seekers to write cover letters, anyone to practice keyboarding or learn operating systems.

Volunteers will assist with various tasks: printing problems; internet navigation; software programs; attachments; how to complete a job application; how to use search engines, keyboarding or how to use a mouse.

Willingness and interest in working with immigrants, refugees and other underserved households is valued. Applicants are required to pass a criminal history background check, sign a volunteer contract and attend an orientation including data safety practices. If you enjoy helping others, need to complete community service hours or simply thrive in the digital world, this opportunity may be for you. There is a possibility of a small stipend.

You must be 16 years of age to apply. We will accommodate flexible hours, but are not open on weekends. Please be sure to read description carefully. It may take up to 3 weeks for paperwork to be processed. If interested, please contact: Diane Anastos, Resident Initiatives Program Coordinator, at 651-298-4929 or diane.anastos@stpha.org for application or if you have questions. Website is: www.stpha.org.
