Mission Statement
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program's mission is to promote better quality of care and improved quality of life of residents of long-term care facilities in Alameda County.
Volunteer Position Description
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a community resource serving the elderly residents in Long-Term Care Facilities, and their families. The Ombudsman's main role is to ensure that residents of long-term care facilities receive the services to which they are entitled, including quality of care.
The Ombudsmen advocate for the dignity, quality of life, and quality of care for residents of Long-Term Care Facilities throughout Alameda County. Ombudsmen ensure that the residents’ rights are always respected and they report violations to appropriate government authorities.
All services for residents are free and confidential.
If you are retired, have a few hours a week, are observant, reliable, and can hold confidential information, would like to assist elders in clarifying their needs and advocating for themselves, you may have what it takes to be an Ombudsman.
After completing a back ground check, 36 hours of class training, and 12-15 hours of field training you will be certified by the state as a Certified Volunteer Ombudsman.
Please contact us at ombuds@acgov.org or 510 638-6878 if you want to learn more or are interested in participating!
