ORGANIZATION: Literacy Minnesota

Purpose of position: To expand and support community engagement through outreach, training and recruitment efforts. This is an unpaid internship position.

Responsibilities include: - Tutor/teach in an Adult Basic Education classroom for two to three hours per week - Assist staff with data entry - Answer incoming Adult Literacy Hotline calls and texts - Work cooperatively with staff and other interns to recruit new volunteers and students - Represent the literacy council at volunteer recruitment fairs and other outreach events - Help facilitate New Volunteer Information Sessions - Help promote and facilitate volunteer engagement events and movie nights - Write articles about volunteer tutoring and internship experience for the Volunteer Voice Blog - Additional projects in support of community outreach as needed

Qualifications: - Dependable, prompt and able to maintain confidentiality - Ability to relate to and work with people from diverse backgrounds - Basic computer, internet, and Microsoft Office software skills - Reliable transportation - Additional language skills in Spanish, Somali, Hmong or Karen preferred, but not required

Location: Minnesota Literacy Council’s main office, 700 Raymond Ave, Suite 180, St. Paul, MN, 55114 and various outreach sites throughout the Twin Cities

Time Commitment: 10-12 hours per week. Schedule will be determined upon start. This internship is for September through December. Start and end dates flexible.
