Service Title: Hospice Volunteer

Department: Hospice Program

Reports To: Volunteer/Community Outreach Coordinator (V/COC)

Supervised By: Volunteer/Community Outreach Coordinator or Assigned Designee

Basic Requirements:

1. Commitment to Ministry Home Care - Hospice Services.

2. Genuine interest in people and an ability to accept individual human differences.

3. Varied skills of a professional and/or non-professional level.

4. At least 18 years of age if serving in patient homes.

5. Willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.

6. Polite, courteous and cooperative communication skills.

7. Compliance with infection control policies.

8. Maintains patient confidentiality.

9. Logs and submits volunteer hours regularly.

10. Completes patient care charting per Medicare standards.

Training Required:

1. Completes the hospice volunteer orientation training program.

2. Completes training for specific areas of service in which he/she is interested and skilled.

3. Regular attendance of volunteer meetings/inservices to meet competency standards.

Service Summary

The role of the hospice volunteer is to serve hospice services and/or hospice patients without monetary compensation in a variety of tasks, for which he/she is trained.

1. Serves on a regular basis according to the needs of the agency and its staff and commits himself/herself to a mutually established schedule and task assignment(s).

2. May serve as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team in hospice services.

3. May also serve in fundraising, clerical assistance, and general support functions to the agency or staff according to needs and each volunteer’s talents and interests.

4. Works under the direction of the Hospice Volunteer/Community Outreach Coordinator and/or staff person to whom he/she is assigned.

5. Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Hospice Volunteer/Community Outreach Coordinator.
