ORGANIZATION: Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada (N4)

We are currently soliciting applications for the Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada (N4) Board of Directors for the positions of Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

The deadline to submit for consideration is August 31, 2018.

The Board of Directors for the N4 governs the overall execution of N4’s mission to link people living in Northern Nevada to each other and to valuable resources by providing a time exchange that grows mutually beneficial community connections. Principally, the Board manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs. Additionally, the Board oversees the Executive Director, who is responsible for day-to-day management of the organization. Members of the Board contribute the educational, management, legal, and financial skills needed to ensure long term organizational stability and ensure year-to-year operations and programmatic focus align with medium and long-term goals. Board Members are also crucial for maintaining organizational accountability at N4.

Position Descriptions

Vice-President.

In the absence or inability of the president, the vice-president shall perform the duties of the president and assume the powers of the president. The vice-president shall serve as chairperson of Board meetings in the event the President is not available.

Secretary.

The secretary of the Board of Directors is an crucial for communication between the board, staff, and members. They are responsible for giving notice of any meetings and timely distribution of materials such as agendas and meeting minutes. The secretary is therefore responsible for:

  • Scheduling, Notice, and Materials: The secretary is responsible for scheduling meetings and should ensuring an adequate number of meetings are held each year. The secretary is required to give adequate notice and coordinate distribution of required materials with N4 staff to Board Members prior to meetings (agendas, minutes, other required documents).
  • Minutes of Meetings: The secretary should record accurate minutes at Board Meetings.
  • Maintenance of Records: The secretary is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and meeting legal requirements or coordinating with N4 staff to ensure the maintenance of such records. This includes meeting filing deadlines and ensuring that documents are reviewed and updated as well as stored and kept readily accessible for inspection by directors and/or members. The secretary must see that any records and/or documents that are required by Nevada Statutes or other entities are properly kept.

Treasurer.

The Treasurer should have thorough knowledge and understanding of the Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada’s financial status. The Treasurer should create and maintain systems for ensuring the organization’s ongoing solvency and oversee the development of the organization’s financial policies. The Treasurer should be knowledgeable about who has access to the organization’s funds and any outstanding bills or debts owed. Therefore the treasurer shall oversee/be responsible for:

  • Preparation or facilitation of the preparation of an annual budget, as well as regularly monitoring and comparing the actual revenues and expenses incurred against the budget.
  • Financial statements and required reports provided as necessary.
  • Creation and oversight of policies and procedures related to financial management.
  • Translation of financial requirements and concepts to other board members and Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada staff who do not have financial backgrounds or substantial financial experience.

The N4 village connects people living in Northern Nevada for inclusive, community-based services, volunteer opportunities, and affordable transportation.

Description

By valuing the assets and gifts of each community member and organization, N4 is shaping the culture in Northern Nevada to ensure everyone has full community access. N4’s current programs include:

- Community Care provides people with disabilities and older adults in-home and community-focused services that increase engagement by using a person/family-centered approach to care planning. Types of services offered include respite services for family care partners, companion services, personal care, social, recreational and educational activities, and information and referral to community resources.

- N4 Connect helps people with disabilities and adults over 60 access affordable supplemental transportation with a 50% discount on Lyft rides. N4 Connect members may receive up to $160 worth of Lyft rides per person each month and have the option of learning how to use Lyft with their personal smartphone, or by contacting the N4 office to schedule a concierge Lyft ride, if they do not own a smartphone. Coming January 2020, N4 will provide wheelchair accessible transportation in the N4 Connect program using a new 12-passenger van.

- Time Exchange is a way for people to give and receive services without exchanging money.

- Volunteer Village builds partnerships with local organizations so N4 members can opt into the volunteer pool without enrolling in the time exchange.
