Global Green is a national environmental non-profit that works in the areas of sustainability and urban resiliency. Our offices are in New Orleans, NYC, DC and Los Angeles. We're seeking help from 2-3 stormwater professionals and/or stormwater engineers to review an inventory of where compost is used in stormwater water management plans, and an initial evaluation of where it could be a fit as a part of these plans in target cities as a part of larger green infrastructure and climate resilience strategies.

Compost can significantly reduce the amount of stormwater runoff and absorb/retain pollutants. Compost helps improve soil structure and listed as a best management practice (BMPs)for stormwater management by the EPA. Compost also sequesters carbon and helps divert organic materials from landfills.

As new buildings arise in major cities, the natural hydrology of an area decreases due to an increase in impervious surface area. This decreases the amount of stormwater that can be naturally infiltrated. Green infrastructure is a method to manage stormwater that mimics the natural environment. Rather than using grey infrastructure, such as a water treatment plant, green infrastructure means planting trees, creating rain gardens and more.

We're seeking help from volunteers with expertise in both city (stormwater) policy and stormwater engineering for a total of 2-3 volunteers.
