Do you have a specialized skill and a desire to serve?

Join Episcopal Charities' Consultant Corps!

Episcopal Charities was founded in 1996 to bring transparency and professionalism to charitable giving by the Diocese of New York. Since then, we have granted more than $15 million to local programs affiliated with parishes in the diocese serving people in need. All of this is made possible by generous individuals, congregations, foundations and corporations that share our commitment to caring. Episcopal Charities provides critical funding and operational support to strengthen nearly 100 local programs working to transform the lives of 900,000 people in need each year.

+ We fight hunger through food pantries and community kitchens;

+We strengthen communities through skills-building programs that offer a path to success for the unemployed, recent immigrants, and the formerly incarcerated re-entering society;

+We protect the most vulnerable through health and wellness programs that improve quality of life for senior citizens, the home bound, children with special needs, and recovering substance abusers;

+We create opportunities for the next generation through children’s arts, academic enrichment, and summer recreation programs.

In the true spirit of outreach, every program we support is free of religious content, welcoming one and all. We serve communities throughout the ten-county Episcopal Diocese of New York: Manhattan, Staten Island, the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Sullivan, Orange and Ulster. Working in partnership with these programs, we help connect those in need with the generosity of caring donors and the energy of dedicated volunteers.

With the Episcopal Charities Consultant Corps we aim to match volunteers with specialized skills to programs that have a need for volunteers with experience and knowledge. These skills include communications, videography/photography, financial planning, knowledge of the law, writing skills, teaching, and more. If the EC Consultant Corps sounds like a good fit for you, please email ecolliebeard@dioceseny.org with the skills you would like to share with your community. Together, we will find you a match working with an outreach program that will benefit from your time and talent. Each opportunity we receive from an outreach program is in a different location and has different time requirements, so in your email please include your ideal location to work in and time frames that are convenient for you. Thank you.

Mission Statement

EPISCOPAL CHARITIES: AN OVERVIEW The mission of Episcopal Charities embraces a wide range of activities that promote and support the community service programs operated and supported by Episcopal congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Episcopal Charities provides three basic services: Grantmaking, Educational Development, and Fund Development, representing a coordinated approach to support for congregations that wish to operate or sponsor programs serving people in their communities.

Description

GRANTMAKING The Episcopal Charities grants program includes two annual cycles: Grants for Basic Human Needs, providing support for a wide range of programs, and the Keystone Partnership for Youth, targeting funds for programs serving young people. The recipients of program funds are listed elsewhere, as are the guidelines for applying for grant funds EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT Each year Episcopal Charities offers a range of educational and training opportunities to all outreach programs in the Diocese, whether or not they receive an Episcopal Charities grant. These opportunities take advantage of two resources; the accumulated wisdom and experience of program leaders and professionals throughout programs in the Diocese, brought together to share their knowledge with colleagues in similar programs, and experts in program and service areas supported by Episcopal Charities. FUND DEVELOPMENT The fund development activities of Episcopal Charities generate all the funds used in its grantmaking program and more than 80% of its total annual revenue. With a small administrative staff and an actively engaged board of directors, Episcopal Charities is able to directly allocate more than 85% of funds raised publicly to program activities, a figure considerably higher than industry standards.
