On Saturday, October 26th, Locust Projects will be holding our annual Smash & Grab fundraiser. There is no other fundraiser quite like this one. The lively event revolves around a raffle, for which over one hundred local, national and international artists have donated artwork - enough so that each raffle ticket is guaranteed to win an artwork. Tickets are drawn at random during the party, with the winner getting their choice of artwork (i.e, first called gets first pick, and so on). The result is a fun way to place artwork into collections, build visibility for artists, connect with Miami’s art community, and support Locust Projects.

This year, the fundraiser will be Halloween/Stranger Things themed-- so feel free to wear something spooky (but appropriate).

Volunteers will be expected to help out in a few key aspects of this event-

  • Guest Check-In
  • Logging raffle winners
  • Tracking artwork pickup from event and making sure raffle winner names are tracked for each pickup
  • Some cleanup help
  • Some light assistance setting up
  • Basic customer service

Prior to the event, there will be one required runthrough/training session to go over run of show and assign duties.

About LOCUST PROJECTS INC

Location:

Mission Statement

Locust Projects is a not for profit exhibition space dedicated to providing contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas without the pressures of gallery sales or limitations of conventional exhibition spaces. Local, national and international artists are encouraged to create site-specific installations as an extension of their representative work. Locust Projects supports the local community through educational initiatives and programming that are free to the public.

Description

Founded in 1998 by a trio of Miami-based artists: Elizabeth Withstandley, Westen Charles, and COOPER, the organization was among the first to open in a converted warehouse in Miami's once depressed Wynwood neighborhood.

In 2000, Locust Projects became incorporated and organized its first Board of Directors. Locust Projects was officially recognized as a 501 (c) (3) not for profit institution in 2002.

A grant award from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts in 2006 allowed the organization to hire its first full-time Executive Director and subsequently supported the relocation of Locust Projects to Miami's Design District in May 2009.

Additional major grants from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, as well as the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs have supported our continued growth.

This once fledgling organization has burgeoned into a recognized art institution in Miami, presenting ambitious works by a diverse group of artists at critical stages in their careers and growing the organization's reputation both nationally and internationally.

Locust Projects is proud to be W.A.G.E. Certified (Working Artists in the Greater Economy), ensuring that we have and we will continue to compensate artists fairly. For more information on W.A.G.E. certification, click here.
