Join the thousands of people caring for our Great Lakes during the Alliance for the Great Lakes' September Adopt-a-Beach Event, part of International Coastal Cleanup Day. Volunteers pick up litter, helping to keep local beaches beautiful and healthy for people and wildlife, while also recording valuable data on the amount and types of litter collected. Last year, 15,181 volunteers removed 40,211 pounds of trash from 1,388 cleanups.
Here are two ways you can participate:
- Volunteer: There are many designated locations that welcome volunteers. Volunteers will receive the instructions and supplies needed to participate when they arrive at the event. While the official event date is September 15th, cleanups are being held all week long. To find a cleanup near you and to register, visit greatlakesadopt.org.
- Become a team leader: Team leaders recruit and organize volunteers to host their own event. The Alliance will provide step-by-step instructions and litter data collection cards. After the event, team leaders enter the litter data into their event listing on our website.
