As a Disaster Health Services (DHS) volunteer, you will support Red Cross mission and abide by Fundamental Principles. DHS volunteers work with client(s) to identify life sustaining meds or medical equipment needed due to disaster caused need, act as a liaison with client’s physician and pharmacist to replace life sustaining medications or medical equipment, works with on-call state duty officer and DAT (disaster action team) to load appropriate recommended funds to the client assistance card based on medical needs. This function is often done virtually, over the phone with the necessary constituents. You may also work in a local disaster shelter to provide health services needs to clients displaced from their homes during a disaster or community emergency.
