The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers who are passionate about emergency safety. We have two programs that focus on emergency preparedness and are directed at children (grades 3-5) and families in at-risk neighborhoods in the South Bend area. Your participation in these programs can lead to saving lives and ensuring there are working smoke alarms in every home in South Bend.
The Pillowcase Program is directed at grades 3-5 and would involve you going into schools that we have agreements with to speak about emergency safety with students. We provide all the materials you will need, as well as the training and coordinate the presentations. We also teach students a calming activity that can be useful in times of stress.
The Home Fire Campaign is the installation of smoke alarms in at-risk neighborhoods in the St. Joseph/Northern Indiana Red Cross chapter. We work with local fire departments to make appointments with homes and provide safety education to the families. You always go out in a team of two and we will provide all the supplies you need.
If you are interested in either program, please give us a call with any questions.
