Puppy

Volunteers needed for home whelps on Long Island-Nassau & Suffolk only please.

There is no better feeling than seeing a dog that you have known from the moment it was born go on to become someone’s assistance dog and change their life. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a litter of future guide dogs or service dog puppies born in your home? Can you commit to 6 weeks of care for a litter of puppies and their mom? If so, you might want to consider volunteering to host a home whelp for the Guide Dog Foundation.

We provide all the necessary equipment needed for the home whelp and we have a wonderful whelping team to assist you. Our whelping staff is available to answer questions and schedule weekly visits to check on mom and pups.

What is needed of you? 1) a clean, safe environment for mom and puppies, 2) a responsible adult who is available all day the first week, and then regularly for the following 5 weeks, 3) a loving environment where puppies receive socialization and are exposed to routine home activities and all the love and attention they can get.

If this is something you and your family are interested in learning more about, please contact our Breeding Program Manager, Theresa@guidedog.org or our Breeding Program Technician, Kara@guidedog.org.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Theresa Manzolillo

Breeding Program Manager
