Aspiring to learn about and from people of different backgrounds? To expand your world view?
And want to do it all in LA? Yes?!?
Well, it IS possible. Volunteer in the heart of Little Tokyo, in Downtown Los Angeles at the Japanese American National Museum!
Share the Japanese American story with our diverse audiences. You’ll hear many unique and distinct stories of lives that together form the American experience. Here are two of many ways to do this at JANM.
- Facilitate interactive school group tours of our core exhibition "Common Ground: The Heart of Community".
- Craft with students to create one of the Museum’s four designated origami pieces
Volunteers needed for morning four hour shifts on Tuesdays (preferred) and Fridays.
Average of eight volunteer hours per month requested.
No museum or docent experience needed.
Familiarity with Japanese American history is a plus but not required.
Knowledge provided in both classroom settings and through active learning.
Nonstop learning opportunities offered through volunteer and staff led sessions, JANM public programs, and on-line resources.
