ORGANIZATION: The Worldview Project

The Worldview Project is looking for a culturally curious volunteer to help coordinate outings and write-ups for The Explorer’s Club.

Launched this year, The Explorer’s Club organizes group trips to cross-cultural places and events in San Diego. The club has already attended films at the Asian Film Festival Spring Showcase and the Latino Film Festival, as well as guided tours of the Chinese Historical Museum and the Asian Historical District, Chicano Park, and the San Diego Islamic Center. The group’s experiences of these events are written up and featured in a column (The Latest) in the online magazine, the San Diego Participant Observer.

What Would You Do?

As The Explorer’s Club Coordinator, you would start out by assisting the current coordinator - although there is the opportunity to become the lead coordinator depending on the level of engagement you can offer.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Enrolling new members in The Explorer’s Club
  • Researching potential events and places to visit in coordination with the Executive Director
  • Establishing communications with organizations who can provide tours or visits
  • Contacting club members (usually via email) to determine which events they are most interested in and then promoting the outings that are chosen
  • Organizing the logistics for the outings
  • Leading outings when necessary and discussions afterwards when appropriate
  • Writing up reflections on the outings or coordinating others to write up their experiences

What Skills Do You Need?

Our ideal coordinator is enthusiastic, culturally sensitive, and well organized, with superb social and communication skills. An important aspect of the The Explorer’s Club is writing short, captivating pieces on the outings. Such write-ups would either be done by the Coordinator or the Coordinator would delegate and manage write-ups by other volunteers or event participants. Excellent writing skills are a strong plus. Some experience with graphic design is also helpful but not required.

We maintain a relaxed and fun working environment but we are very serious and conscientious about what we do, so dependability is an absolute must. The Coodinator must be generally available on weekends and evenings, and spend at least a few hours in our office during the week. Ideally, candidates would have a valid passport to travel to events in Northern Baja, Mexico.

What are You Waiting for?

Don’t miss this chance to meet new people at interesting (and sometimes discounted) events. If you enjoy learning about different cultures, coordinating events, and communicating with others, then contact us now!

Most of our work happens during normal business hours, with only occasional weekend or evening hours requested. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least 120 hours of volunteer work within a 6 months period. Interns must also commit to 120 hours, but within a 3 month timeframe.

Please visit our website at www.thewvp.org and our online magazine at www.parobs.org for more information about our organization and the work we do!
