Using carefully assessed curriculum tools, this one-hour program provides emergency-preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 in school and after-school settings. In a highly interactive format, the program addresses fire safety, local hazards, coping skills and making a personal emergency kit in a pillowcase that is supplied by the program.

Work with Regional Pillowcase Project team to implement the program as designated by the Region.

Work with the Regional Pillowcase Project team to conduct outreach to schools, after school groups, community centers and scouting troops, etc., with the goal of securing presentation sites and potential volunteers.

Meet with school administrators and teachers to explain the Pillowcase Project, describe the materials, and plan for follow-up.

Give The Pillowcase Project presentations to youth.

Ensure student post-tests are distributed and collected to support required monitoring, evaluating, and reporting.

Pick up/return equipment and supplies to/from Red Cross offices as needed.

Support Regional Pillowcase Project team as required.

Qualifications-

Willingness to support the American Red Cross Mission and Principles.

Comfort with presenting an interactive curriculum to youth ages 8-11 in school and after school settings.

Well versed in emergency preparedness, including protective actions.

Willingness to teach new ideas and concepts, such as coping skills.

Strong organizational skills and ability to follow through.

Excellent communication skills, including public speaking.

Engaging and dynamic personality.

Reliable, punctual, good time management skills.

Ability to complete reports and follow-up calls in a timely manner.

Ability to problem solve and be flexible in the field.

Daytime and/or weekend availability desired.

Ability to arrange transportation to the Red Cross office to pick up materials, and to event location.
