We’re bringing the culinary classroom to the curbside in the communities that we serve. The Mobile Teaching Kitchen arrives on-site at schools, farmers’ markets and community events with tables, cooking equipment, speakers and more to create a hands-on cooking demonstration experience. All MTK visits take place within the Greater Philadelphia Region.

Volunteers are asked to assist with:

  • Setting up tables & roll out plastic tablecloths
  • Setting up the hands-on activities (cut gloves, cooking tools, mixing bowls, colored mats)
  • Distributing hands-on ingredient(s)
  • Supporting hands-on participants
  • Distributing recipe cards
  • Distributing samples and utensils
  • Distributing surveys, answer questions, and collect completed surveys
  • Cleaning in between and during demonstrations
  • Resetting hands-on workstations
  • Assisting Educator with equipment clean up and break down

Schedule

Specific schedules vary visit to visit, but all of our MTK opportunities:

  • Run throughout the entire week at various times, all year long!
  • Accommodate groups of 20-30 adults and/or youth

Volunteers are expected to have an upbeat personality, passion and willingness to be hands-on, and have a basic knowledge of food, cooking equipment, and techniques.

If you are interested in becoming a Mobile Teaching Kitchen Volunteer, please email Maddy Booth at maddy@vetricommunity.org for more information about our Volunteer on-boarding process.

About Vetri Community Partnership

Location:

211 N 13 St, Philadelphia, PA 19107, US

Mission Statement

Established to help kids experience the connection between healthy eating and healthy living, Vetri Community Partnership empowers children and families to lead healthier lives through fresh food, hands-on experiences and education.

Description

Children who have healthy bodies and healthy minds have the opportunity to create healthy lives for themselves. We envision healthier children with fewer obesity-related health issues who become empowered adults who can then pass nutritional eating habits onto their children. We’re committed to breaking the cycle of poor eating habits passed down from generation to generation.

We love real food. We are not nutritionists, dietitians or doctors. We are chefs, restaurant industry transplants and food lovers who understand that healthy food is better received when it’s served in a delicious and dignified way.

Our programs aren’t prescriptive; they’re experiential. When kids connect with real, whole food in the cafeteria or in the kitchen, they are inspired to make informed decisions, influence their families and become a voice for healthier choices in their communities.
