Be a part of Team Magee! The PX (Patient Experience) Ambassador provides non-clinical learning opportunities for volunteers. Volunteers will engage in proactive non-clinical rounding on inpatient and outpatient units as well as greeting and assisting visitors throughout the hospital. The Rounding Volunteers report to the Guest Relations Department to enhance the experience for patients and visitors while gaining familiarity working in a hospital setting. The volunteer completes rounds to check on all of their assigned patients, asking if they need anything or could assist them in any way.

Days/Hours: 3 hour shifts Monday-Friday 4 PM - 7 PM & Saturday 1-4 PM

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Round on assigned patients to ask specific patient satisfaction questions for various departments
    • Report any issues to Guest Relations staff
  • Round on patients who don’t have visitors, on weekends especially
  • Offer the list of concierge services
  • Promote weekly activities and spiritual care services
  • Deliver mail and packages to patient rooms
  • Distribute communication flyers
  • Provide support for patients through sitting and listening, reading or any mutually agreed upon recreational activity (use and restock the activity cart)
  • Help patients read mail, write letters
  • Set up games for patients/play games with patients as time and other duties allow; organize 6 th floor game box and ping pong table; lounges
  • Fill patients’ water pitchers
  • Document the interactions, especially if the patient asks for something specific
  • Report back to Guest Relations Team at the end of the shift - email to concierge email.
Limitations:

Volunteers may NOT

  • Feed patients, unless specifically directed and trained by staff to do so
  • Perform patient transfers or weight shifts
  • Assist patients with toileting or grooming
  • All other clinical needs
  • Use their cell phones while they are with patients (Please see our Cell Phone Policy located in the Volunteer Manual)

Inpatient services are delivered at Magee's main campus located at Sixteenth & Race Streets in Center City Philadelphia. Outpatient programs are delivered through Magee's outpatient network, including the Magee Riverfront outpatient center at 1500 South Columbus Boulevard, Magee at Watermark in Center City, and Magee at Oxford Valley.
