Each spring and fall, the SWVA MRC assists local law enforcement agencies throughout Southwest Virginia with the DEA Drug Take Back. Volunteers will be located outside Woody's Pharmacy in the Food City Shopping Center.
Volunteers will assist citizens in disposing of their old and unused medications and assisting law-enforcement with proper packaging for incineration. A Law Enforcement agent will be present.

Mission Statement
The Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps will provide, when requested, a systematic, coordinated and effective voluntary response to events affecting their local communities.
Description
The Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps is a cadre of volunteer health care professionals and community members trained to respond and assist with public health crises in the 13 counties and 3 cities in Cumberland Plateau, Lenowisco and Mount Rogers Health Districts.
The Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps recruits for practicing, retired or otherwise employed medical professionals, as well as community members with non-medical skills. Physicians, pharmacists, nurses, epidemiologists and paramedics are just a sampling of the medical community that have been tapped for service. Clergy, translators, sign language interpreters, administrative assistants, volunteer coordinators and all other members of our communities are also encouraged to consider becoming a part of the unit. As of July 2018, there are over 750 approved volunteers.
